Modern time systems can be connected to computers - stand-alone or in networks.
A frequently used function of a time base is the programming of out-puts. Westerstrand software for programming out-puts from a time base via a PC is called TICOM. This software can be executed in stand alone PC:s connected to the time base by RS232 or from any computer in a TCP/IP based LAN/WAN to which the time base is connected. Out-put signals in a master clock for e.g. a school can be programmed from and stored in computers and be re-used for other schools.
Computer systems handling time critical functions need accurate time. Westerstrand solution to time servers in a LAN/WAN is called WELAN. WELAN is connected via a TCP/IP protocol and can either be built into the master clock or connected as a separate unit. In such configuration the time base can work as time server in the computer network. If WELAN is built-in into a time central or a master clock with out-puts for relay control, programming can be done from any workstation in the net provided TICOM is loaded.
